Supply Chain, UCCnet and GLOBALregistry Print E-mail
The Global Commerce Initiative (GCI) defines data synchronization as “The continuous harmonization of data attribute values between two or more different systems, with the end result being the data attribute values are the same in all of the systems”. Data synchronization helps trading partners (manufacturers and retailers for example) reduce errors involved in pricing, purchase orders, product delivery, and scanning. As product data changes, new information can be communicated quickly and accurately in a standardized format. Additionally, data synchronization can help companies take new products to market faster and help buyers and sellers locate one another with greater ease, regardless of location.

The Global Registry handled by UCCnet, and as defined by the EAN and UCC, provides product registry, validation and data synchronization services. Largely involving the retail and CPG market, UCCnet data synchronization is estimated to be the largest industry-wide movement since the UPC code. Many major retailers have begun to issue supplier mandates. The adoption of UCCnet services is growing and other industries are taking note.

UCCnet Data Synchronization Services uses Extensible Markup Language (XML) schemas for standard messaging, which complies with the Global Data Synchronization Network (GDSN) standards (GDSN governs the communication and data synchronization between the GLOBALregistry and individual company catalogs). This establishes a common electronic communication architecture for companies around the world to do business with each other more efficiently and effectively.

I have consulted for some of the largest vendors offering solutions to integrating your systems to the GLOBALRegistry and third party solutions for item attributes and data storage. I have also developed the project plans for implementing solutions with some of the biggest names pushing the UCCnet initiative. I have managed development including the certification process for e-Business Ready UCCnet solutions.
